Gimmel Girl

One day a guest came to visit. Gimmel Girl was her name. She gave everyone some green grapes. Gimmel Girl was about to throw out the extra grapes into the garbage. Baby Bet and Baby Vet stopped her by teaching her about Bal Tashchis. We are not supposed to waste! Instead Gimmel Girl put the leftover grapes in the refrigerator.

  2. There once was a king who made a decree against the Jewish people. The Jews decided to send a Rabbi named Nachum Ish Gam Zu, to bring a gift of precious gems to the king. He was called Ish Gam Zu because he always said "This too is for the best." They hoped that this would appease the king so that he would annul the decree.

On the way,Rabbi Nachum Ish Gam Zu stopped off at an inn to rest. While he was sleeping the innkeeper stole the precious gems and filled the chest with sand so that the Rabbi would not notice that the chest was any lighter.

When Nachum Ish Gam Zu came before the king and opened the chest, the king got very angry. Nachum Ish Gam Zu did not get afraid. He said, "This too is for the best." Suddenly one of the king's guards (who may of been Elijah the Prophet) suggested that maybe the Jews were sending special sand. The kind that their forfather, Abraham, used when he fought a war against 5 kings to save Lot. When Abraham threw the sand each speck of sand turned into an arrow against the enemy. Sure enough, at that time, the king was in the midst of fighting a war with another country. He had the sand sent to the front and miraculously the sand turned into Arrows. The king was very pleased and annulled the evil decree against the Jews. Additionally he filled the chest with precious gems as a gift for the Jews. Nachum Ish Gam Zu saw how everything turned out for the best. If he would have brought the original gift of precious gems, the king may not have accepted it because he was so wealthy and he already had so many precious gems. The miraculous sand however was truly a unique gift.

Rabbi Nachum Ish Gam Zu started the trip back home. On the way he stopped at the same inn to rest. The Innkeeper was shocked to see the Rabbi alive and well. When he heard what happened he hurried to fill an entire wagon of sand from his backyard, thinking that it was miraculous sand, and rushed to the king's palace to get his reward.

The Innkeeper wasn't so lucky this time. The sand he brought was ordinary sand. The Innkeeper was imprisoned. The Jews on the other hand rejoiced. They realized that G-d had performed a great miracle for them and saved them from the king's decree.
